It's Almost That Time Again...

In preparation for Hoosier Hysteria this Friday night I have picked my five favorite Hoosiers of all time. This is not a list for the "greatest" Hoosiers but my personal favorites. It is based on my limited years of watching the greatest program in the history of college basketball.

The top five:

5. Tom Coverdale

Coverdale played point guard for the Hoosiers from 1999-2003. During his junior year he led Indiana to the Final Four and upset 3-seed Oklahoma to reach the National Championship game. Coverdale finished his career at Indiana ranked 2nd in 3-pointers made (200) and 3rd all time in assists (500). He is still the only Hoosier to ever have 1,000 points, 200 three-pointers, and 500 assists in a career.

4. Damon Bailey

Bailey finished high school as the state's all-time leading scorer, with 3,134 points during his basketball career and captured the title of Indiana's "Mr. Basketball" during his senior year while winning the State Championship in front of a crowd of more than 41,000 people, the most people to ever attend a high school basketball game.

A four-year starter for the Hoosiers, Bailey finished sixth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,741 points. He also garnered a third-team All-American award, first-team All-Big Ten award, and he led IU to a Final Four appearance in 1992.

3. A.J. Guyton

Guyton became just the eighth Hoosier to notch 400 points, 100 assists, and 100 rebounds in a single season, and just the second freshman (along with Isaiah Thomas).

Remembered by Hoosiers fans as one of the best to come through Assembly Hall he finished his career as the all-time leader in three's with 283 and 4th on the all-time scoring list with over 2,100 points.

2. Steve Alford

Alford’s legend started in High School as he was named Indiana’s Mr. Basketball in 1983. While at Indiana Alford became the university's all time leading scorer with 2,438 points. Alford was the first player to be named the team's MVP four times. He was also a first team All-American, and was the named Big Ten MVP during the 1986-87 season. Alford's free throw percentage of 89.8% is fourth in the history of the NCAA.

In 1987, Alford led the Hoosiers to the NCAA Championship Game against Syracuse. Alford did his part, shooting 7–10 from the 3-point line, scoring 23 points.
